Advice for aspiring decorative arts historians:

Volunteering and internships, in addition to coursework, are critical to your professional development. It can be overwhelming to juggle many responsibilities, but it is essential to cultivating a good resume and developing an understanding of the arts. Also, look around youdecorative arts are everywhere! The more you look, the more chances you have to hone your skills. Never pass up a flea market or “antique” shop. See if you can find the forgeries and fakes. It’s thrilling when you realize you have developed a good eye!
